Christmas Events

With the Christmas period fast approaching, I wanted to inform you of a couple of school and community events coming up.

On 30th November, the annual Rayleigh Town Christmas Lights Switch On will take place.听 It is always a very popular event, and once again, our school choir will be performing a number of Christmas songs.

I know that they would be very grateful for any support you can provide, fingers crossed that this year, the weather is kinder to them than last year!

On Monday 18th December, we will be holding our Christmas Concert in the Main Hall.听 If you would like tickets to attend then please contact Pupil Services at pupilservices@sweynepark.com. It is always a lovely event to get you into the festive spirit!

Finally, on 19th December, we invite pupils and students to participate in Christmas Jumper Day, although this is on a completely voluntary basis and there is no expectation for parents/carers to go to any unnecessary expense. As usual, we will finish the term early and pupils will be dismissed for the festive break at 12.30 pm.

NCA National Cyber Crime Awareness Campaign

We have, this week, received some useful information from the NCA鈥檚 National Cyber Crime Unit.

The organisation has developed the 鈥淐yber Choices鈥 programme () to raise awareness of Cyber Crime and provide useful guidance and resources to pupils and parents.

Please Click here to access a couple of posters, which aim to promote how cyber-attacks can be prevented and demonstrate ways to use cyber skills for legitimate and fun purposes.

This is a complex world and I do hope you find this useful.

Inset Day 鈥 Friday 24th November

As a reminder, we have a non-pupil day on Friday 24th November.听 School will resume at the usual time of 8.35 am on Monday 27th November.

And Finally鈥

Enjoy the weekend!

Gamelan Workshop at the University of London

On Tuesday, Miss Wood took 24 GCSE pupils and A Level music students (including three Year 9’s that are part of SPS band) to City, University of London. The pupils and students had a 2-hour Gamelan workshop, which involved them playing a variety of traditional Balinese percussion instruments under the direction of Gamelan expert Andy Channing.

They learnt a piece called ‘Baris Tunggal’, a male warrior dance, and by the end of the session, presented a complete performance of the piece. The trip was a fantastic experience for the pupils and students, serving to enhance their musicianship skills, as well as providing them with a new understanding of music from a rhythmic and cyclical perspective!

Year 7 Netball Team

On Monday 13th November, the Year 7 Netball Team won their match against Castle View School. The whole team played exceptionally well, with some amazing shooting skills demonstrated by Lexie and Brooke. The defenders did a great job, intercepting some excellent shots at goal, and the centre court players made some fantastic passes down the court. Lexie HG was the player of the match, a well-deserved award for her skilled shooting and overall play.

The team had a great game, scoring 20 goals!! It seems they are on a bit of a winning streak with 2 wins from 2 games. Keep up the good work girls!
